Unexpectedly found some great #DuckDuckGo search tips in this comment thread. I've been sticking to Google for tech work but I think I'll now be able to fully switch over. Worth a read.
I’m sick to death of people being precious about #GMO produce. Functionally there is no difference between a grape bred to have little or no seed and a grape that has been modified in a lab for the same thing. Y’all are just scared of science.
You wanna talk about #Monsanto charging for “licenses” for their crops, ok. Talk about agribusiness killing the planet, ok. Talk about corporations copyrighting genetic code, ok. These are all valid concerns.
But the science is sound.

The industry has been saying it's all gunna be in the cloud™ for decades. Literally the only reason they want it to be is take away ownership and have total control of what you have access to.
CWs are super great to encourage political action because:
- you can mention where it's happening, so you don't have to read it if you can't do anything about it, (or forward it on in case others might be able to act on it)
- you can say 'hey, here's something that you can do about it' and people can think 'oh wow, that's great, I'll take a look at this when I'm up for it'
(ie. giving context and action statements prevents apathy and makes political action messages focused instead of chaotic)
When people don't like the UI of mastodon you can integreat their feedback into your concept, but also guide them towards other plattforms that are part of the fediverse that might fit their needs better.
Collaboration and diversity is our strength. Concurence will weaken the network effect, since some will just drop out if they don't like the design.
We need more references towards each other.
“If you want to make a safe place to create... you have to start by making the most vulnerable people safe first. So you have to take the people who have been most marginalized, most pushed away from conventional tech and say ‘you are going to be at the center of this, you’re going to be the first people we reach out to, to say does this work for you? Does this meet your needs?’”

Math articles on #wikipedia are just the absolute worst.
I reliably don't understand *anything at all* of what wikipedia math articles are saying, even for concepts that I already understand, have applied and implemented myself.
Like, I don't know if reading about a topic can actually make you understand *less* about it, but if so wikipedia math articles are the absolute holy grail of that field.
Can you imagine how much more amazing art we would be drowning in if our society properly supported different walks of life? If copyright wasn't strangling creative expression, if artists weren't exploited at every bend, if structures let in not just straight white guys, if people were given education and healthcare as a genuine investment in their prosperity not a begrudging admission of worker's rights. Even now, the amount of art everywhere is overwhelming in the face of all that.
