I want exodus to happen. Freedom from centralized social networks.
@RobbieCarey @agektmr This is kinda what I predict, yeah: https://mastodon.social/@nolan/2295063
@nolan @agektmr Could very well be--though lack of customer engagement generally signifies marketing failure. Bieber might not get the memo, though. :smile: I did forget about Black Twitter, though--the platform's made a huge impact there. So maybe they can hold onto that demo if they make an effort. It'll depend on whether they prioritize B2C marketers or B2B. And whether they can figure out how to not alienate black people.
@RobbieCarey @nolan Mastodon needs love from business oriented companies. Grass root efforts don't necessarily end up becoming a successful project. There were number of similar project as Mastodon in the past but they all failed.
@agektmr @RobbieCarey Do you really think so? I kinda wonder if it can't just always be a little weird niche subculture at the very least. Sorta like Second Life or Deviant Art.
@nolan @RobbieCarey If
you can invest on running the server forever, possibly it will sustain. But I don't think I can do that myself :)
@agektmr @nolan True, but they won't come unless they see potential for a ROI. If Mastodon picks up speed though, I think there are a lot of ways for marketers to take advantage. A lot of people are talking about how decentralizing will make it more difficult for marketers, but I think it'll present even better opportunities to target a specific segment. Plus companies could even have their own instance, useful for B2B/professional communications.
@agektmr I'm guessing we'll never see an exodus of significant proportions from any social media platform, they will just evolve or slowly die. The way things are going, Twitter is likely to turn into a purely B2B marketing tool as time goes on.
