How often does everyone read articles/books? I find I'm reading 30-50 articles a week and it seems high, how do others learn and grow? Here's a summary of what I did and read last week: http://blakeembrey.com/self/2017-05-16-review/
This was an actual Bitcoin transaction to one of the Wannacrypt addresses. Notice the sender addresses. https://blockchain.info/tx/96015c757e440554005965b97349234dcae8d4c0f8cc3410a0743cbcc9bacd6c https://icosahedron.website/media/-ESNlZljtxaNO4ryYEo
I know I haven't set up Patreon rewards or anything yet, but as the month closes out, I just want to say thanks SO MUCH to everyone who's supporting me. 🙇
It's not so much about supporting me in particular, but more about making sure this purple website remains sustainable. 🙂 There is no business model for a free, ad-free social network except through donations. So again, thank you!!
I read and watched a tonne this week: http://blakeembrey.com/self/2017-04-24-review/
Does anyone have any recommended reading for this week?
First the queers and furries build a space where they can be themselves.
Then the infosec folks find that it fits well with their values.
Then the communists flock to the first real alternative to capitalist monopoly on shortform burst communication.
Then the artists come to find new walls to paint and nobody to tell them no.
The intellectuals, the chroniclers, the priests and the prophets, singly and in droves.
Slowly, it builds. It's neat to build an oral history from inception. #mastodon
Can't tell if I'm being an asshole sometimes, but I really can't deal with people ranting on open media (e.g. Github) instead of being constructive and contributing to the conversation instead. It's much easier to call it out when you're not the target of said harassment.
Here's my (delayed) #introduction!
I'm a full stack developer. I spend a lot of time in OSS and TypeScript. Trying to ween myself off it to focus on my interests in decentralisation, linked data, life tracking and note taking. Also to learn/read/watch/eat/play more!
I moved to San Diego last year and in a past life traveled around the world meeting people.
Toot at me if you'd like to chat, I'm always free for an interesting conversation.
Another week, another review: http://blakeembrey.com/self/2017-04-16-review/. What has everyone else been up to this week?
The federated timeline is known as "Enemy propaganda", and the local timeline is known as "goodthink."
mastodon is twitter if twitter was just people talking about installing their own twitter instance
Two good intros to Mastodon:

Do people get value out of learning what other people are reading/doing/etc? I'm looking at publishing a weekly self-review on the content I'm consuming and would love to know if anyone else finds it valuable: http://blakeembrey.com/self/2017-04-09-review/
Oh yeah another tip for newbies: there is a Twitter-to-Mastodon import tool to find people to follow. After you use it to link your Twitter and Mastodon accounts, then others will be able to find you too.
@nolan Is there a consensus on having multiple accounts on multiple instances versus following people from different instances with an account on a single instance?
