@nolan this led me to the thought that mastodon, while still an addictive social media platform, might just seem healthier because here, when i say something, people usually notice and respond to it.
that is: there's still a variable reward structure, sure, but neither the community nor the engineering of the platform itself are nearly as tuned to drive shouting-into-the-void as pulling-slot-machine-levers.
