Mastodon reminds me of Geocities and the early web. I mean that in a very positive way; it brings people together with other like-minded folk to share an online experience in a similar manner to the way Geocities did for people who wanted to publish their ideas in the 90s/00s. The expectation that permeates the birdsite that you should present yourself as a professional, or as funny, or socially adept, or whatever is missing here, and that's a really good thing.

@onion2k I remembered my first site ever: geocities.com/gladimdim/hack.h. I posted something about HTML/CSS from manuals, which were on CD-ROMs. And Mastodon feels the same. Nostalgic :-)

@onion2k There has been a lot of discussion about hos Masto is capturing the spirit of the BBSs (which, with fidonet because a kind of federated social network, without the internet.)

I love that there has been a return to open standards and a shared internet.

This stuff is good.
