Is Latex still the best way to write mathematical notes, or is there better software?
@srukle better software than LaTeX? nope 😜
@srukle none that I'm aware of sadly
@srukle Take a look at context. It's still TeX, but a bit more humane.
@srukle I like ShareLaTeX.
@QContinuumHypothesis Thank you. I will look into that.
@srukle For me there are two kinds of mathematical notes: those that I write to try to get straight in my head, and those that are part of a paper or lecture in progress. I use paper for the first kind and \LaTeX for the second. Sometimes the first turns into the second. For reviewing, I mostly use org-mode in emacs. Sometimes when restructuring a paper / lecture I will also use org-mode. And some beamer talks I author in org-mode, but that's less about notes and more about quick visuals
@bremner Thank you for your input. I think I will refocus my energy to understanding the concepts on paper instead of organizing them in a grand wiki or Latex document. Sometimes I tackle a big project by focusing on how to organize it without actually carrying out the plan.
@srukle I kid you not, but org mode in #emacs works really well. you can write pidgin latex formulas if you need them, but the rest (structure amd tablrs and figures) are much nicer. then, export to latex when you're done.
