I have 9 nieces and nephews and every one of them has a smartphone they appear to live on.
When I tell people who haven’t yet hit the Myth of Sisyphus-style moment (that I’ve had with regard to social media) and discovered that this shit is real bad for us, I feel like their perception is that I am extremely out of touch or that I just don’t get it.
I’m not sure it is worth trying to uproot people from their social addiction, but I feel like we should have methods for handling and talking to them about it. It’s sad to me how many kids are now raised to have this dependency.

This story has implications for the fediverse, though. Imagine two instances with subscription business models trying to compete for users. There'll be an incentive for unscrupulous admins to DDOS their competitors to get more users on their own instance. This is exactly what happened with Minecraft servers.
When there's money involved, people do awful things to each other to get the upper hand. Kind of a relief that most Mastodon instances are run on donations these days… 😅
Just finished the seventh volume of Saga and this is easily my favorite comic. It deserves to be so widely read as it seems to be.
