#Musicians what are your #resolutions for 2018? How do you recommit to your creativity and your art? Or kick it up a notch in performing?
@softanimal I like it! What kind of music do you make!
@venetianblond lotsa different styles but you can peep the bandcamp for some stuff!
@softanimal I will!!
@venetianblond Not necessarily a resolution, but I want to get a EP-length release out there and maybe start up a patreon.
@garpu I've known you a while but I don't know your music. What do you play?
@venetianblond I don't. I'm a composer.
@garpu Got it. So the EP would be of previous works?
@venetianblond No...want to do new stuff.
@garpu Nice. Get it!!
@venetianblond YOu know geekgirlsrule on twitter? She had a punk band going for awhile. Think they were looking for a new guitarist?
@garpu oh yeah! I don't think I had noticed any tweets from her in a while...plus my feed had gotten out of hand...
@venetianblond Was in the regular composition DMA at UW, but did a lot of computer music.
@garpu Cool!! I'm a performer mostly-big big ups to the composers. Not in my skill set!:)
@venetianblond I'm not entirely sure how patreon would work for a composer. I don't want to give away the farm for free, as it were.
@venetianblond My bands have all gone dormant. The 2 things I want most this year are to hopefully revive my improv trio because it makes me happy, & seek out a regularly gigging band that needs a bass player.
Also, I should be practicing an hour a day, which includes finishing off the Steely Dan catalog with the headphones on. Also also if I can afford it, I want to start piano lessons. I’m an ear player & it’s time to learn some theory & notation.
@Devils_Rancher big plans!Get it!
@Devils_Rancher Have you been able to implement your resolutions? @venetianblond
@SeventhMagpie @venetianblond I’m playing more, but really, no. As usual, new-years resolutions just set me up for failure.😕
@Devils_Rancher But then, the year has not ended yet. ;)
@SeventhMagpie true🙂. I spent an hour working on Yes songs last night - my tribute band is trying to record a proper demo & last week’s practice was a bit of a train wreck. Felt good to sit with the headphones on, & you asking actually spurred me to get up off my butt.
@Devils_Rancher That's great! Half a year ahead, lots of things can be done. Don't give up just yet. :) Finding time to practice can be tough, I know that first hand. But even 15 minutes is better than nothing. Although a whole hour is much better than 15 minutes, of course. :)
@SeventhMagpie Playing the bass also takes physical conditioning - it’s a somewhat athletic instrument, especially on these 15-minute-long songs.
@Devils_Rancher Sounds like a challenge. ;)
@SeventhMagpie Heart of the Sunrise is exhausting. We can usually only practice it maybe 3 times in an evening before my forearms give out.
@Devils_Rancher Do you always pay it whole during practice? If so, it might not be the best way. Break it in pieces, determine which one need closer attention, and practice this piece separately. Then run the whole song in the end of practice session to see the result. Such approach will be more productive and less tiring.
Do you maybe record something? :)
@SeventhMagpie yeah, we do both - work on sections then tie it all together. We record everything just in case we get something good.
@venetianblond mine are write more, improvise more :)
