Mastodon in Japan is really about to take off. It's on tech media every day, multiple mobile client apps emerging, number of users and instances increasing. This is crazy.

@agektmr Yeah, it's amazing how covered Masto got, I wouldn't have expect French TV channels talkign about it. I really trust Masto to become a new big social thing

@agektmr That's really interesting, thank you for sharing! I have to say that I definitely saw a big increase in Japanese toots and users come through from the Federated timeline in the past few weeks, which is very exciting! Hoping to see similar success in other countries, too.

@agektmr Interesting. But why specifically in Japan ⁉
Can we try in France to reproduce what made #Mastodon so popular in your country ❓

@thomas I don't know. People love anonymous communication and freedom a la 2ch here.

@agektmr @thomas very hard if not impossible to artificially create a mobile culture if not emerging naturally, Japan is far ahead regarding mobile penetration (China will be even bigger) Twitter in France is of course huge but don't compare with Spain for example or Turkey, all of this to say it's hard to emulate what made these countries flock to twitter or other networks massively...

@david Depending on the threahold, but I wouldn't call it success yet. Only been 2 weeks since it emerged here. But I think it's just matter of time non tech media starts to talk about it.

@agektmr
Are people simply looking for better platforms? Or, it just happened that Mastodon was hosting awesome communities?

I'm looking for an open alternative to G+ myself. And not very fond of that other, more popular social media network.

@GOwin I think latter. I wouldn't say Mastodon differentiates other open source based social networks. It's just happened to be found in a good timing IMH.
