Brutaldon is an alternative Mastodon web client by @gcupc that works without JS and is usable in the Lynx browser: github.com/jfmcbrayer/brutaldo

This looks really neat. I love the idea of multiple Mastodon web clients, each tailored to a different niche. Keep 'em coming!

The other interesting thing about Brutaldon is that it doesn't seem to store any user data in the local SQLite database. I'm poking around in there and only finding the access token and session tokens.

So it seems to act as a simple proxy – fetches your data from the Mastodon API, then immediately forgets it. Good from a privacy POV!

Cool, Brutaldon can even upload images with alt text. Alt text also becomes more important when you're in a text-only browser, lol toot.cafe/media/bGUXD0jBLppOJ1 toot.cafe/media/-i6tH1Wl_n-RyS

@nolan @gcupc I wanted to do something like this, but with the intention of Opera Mini (since Twitter had a super basic mobile site for that browser, but Masto didn't). Great work!

@nolan @gcupc ooo I wanna this to be hosted somewhere so I can use Mastodon from my 3DS browser. That'd be so freaking cool

@Alamantus nolan@toot.cafe
There is a publicly hosted version at brutaldon.online/.

Some users have reported success with various game console browsers.

@gcupc I can't use it from my 3DS I guess because it doesn't accept cookies correctly or something, which is preventing me from logging in 😭

@Alamantus
Too bad! The four things your browser needs to work with brutaldon are
1. https (not needed if you run locally)
2. html forms support
3. cookie support
4. Referer header support.

I would honestly love to get rid of (4), but the Django CSRF middleware requires it.

@nolan @gcupc honestly though, full pn brutal mode needs to be enabled by default
