🎺.☕️ And BTW: the reason I'm boosting toots about how admins have access to your DMs is because you deserve to be aware. That's why it's nice to be on an instance where you can trust the admin.
In case it's not clear: I will never sell your data or give this instance to someone who will. You all are my *family*, and I protect my family.
If for whatever reason you *didn't* trust me, I'd rather give the SSH keys to someone you did and give up the instance than keep being admin.
Also in terms of security: this instance only exposes ports 22, 80, and 443. The "mastodon" user does not have sudo access and SSH logins with passwords (as opposed to SSH keys) is disallowed. LetsEncrypt HTTPS is used everywhere.
I'm using a personal (non-work) Microsoft account for this, and the instance is located in US West 2. If the latency is an issue even after I add S3, we can move it elsewhere as y'all like.
Mastodon does *not* have E2E encryption. Use Signal/WhatsApp for that.
@nolan We could add PGP :3
(*casually opens a can of worms*)
Also: to fix Masto latency issues, can we please get together and contribute PWA / Service Worker support to https://tootsuite/mastodon ? We have like 150 brilliant web folks here, surely we can do this! ⚡️
@nolan THIS SO MUCH.
Count me in <3
@nolan does mastodon shard? would it be possible to have a local server on the east coast?
@nolan The truly paranoid ought to look into creating their own instances :)
@nolan ....Suddenly very interested in toot.cafe.
@nsqe lol yeah our privacy policy is maybe one of the easiest things I've had to write: https://toot.cafe/about/more#privacy-policy
@nolan how do you PM someone?
@nolan That's the spirit.
