Howdy @pimterry ! Welcome to :trumpet:.:coffee:

@pimterry Welcome to Mastodon! Hope you have a good time here! :)

@nikhita Thanks! I actually already have a mastodon.social account (@pimterry), I'm just looking at moving to toot.cafe instead, to find somewhere with a more interesting community for me. .social is nice, but they seem to mostly talk about mastodon itself, being french, and infosec, whereas everybody round here seems way more dev/webdev/etc focused.

@pimterry Yeah, toot.cafe is leaning more towards the tech side. The signal to noise ratio in the local timeline is great. :)

Since the common interests are webdev or development in general, it's easier to have quality conversations. Pretty sure you'll have a good time here. :)

@pimterry Hello there, and welcome 😀

What enticed you to Spain? Are you there permanently or just for a bit?

@carly_io Hi! Mainly, I moved from London to Bucharest for 3 months for work, and going back to London was a bit of a shock :D.

London is great, but it's crazy expensive. It turns out other places are often far more interesting, and way easier to move to than I'd expected. Also showed that my gf & I can work remotely, in ~UTC at least, and once you can go anywhere in Europe, Barcelona seems like a good bet.

Been a year & a half now. Not going anywhere _soon_, but medium-term I have no idea.

@pimterry Nice! I'm a bit jealous of your EU passport. Schengen is a bit of a pain for Australians who like to slow travel or want to live there for a while (I hear).

And remote work too, cool! I'm so glad the tech has finally progressed enough that this is becoming common. 😊👍

@carly_io Yeah, EU passport is great for this kind of thing, it's incredible.

The tech community here's pretty good, for JS especially. I think there's a big PHP group too? Not sure. Meetup.com itself particularly is absolutely huge - there's a massive expat population, including loads of devs, and it pretty much alllll goes through there.

@pimterry are you amongst the tech community there in Barcelona? I'm curious about meetup nights and events stuff. Much going on?

@pimterry Be wellcome to Mastodon. I'm new here too and i hope we have a great experience in this social network. ☺
