Seen a few people asking if there may be a Mastodon app available on and .

There isn't but that's fine. If you visit your Instance on a mobile browser and save it to the home screen, it works *just like* any mobile app.

This a growing trend, that the app stores are becoming increasingly less needed the more powerful CSS, JS and HTML5 become. Apple & Android will always have their "Sandboxes" but I think we've hit critical mass where we'll soon be able to burst out from it.

@cs Ah, so there is? My bad, should have figured that someone had made one by now. I'll still give it a whirl but for the most part, saving to the home screen has worked really well so far.

@virt Yea, I think there are a few others as well ("11t" is on both iOS and Android), but agreed on the Masto web app, it's full featured and feels more lightweight than the native app. I think it even supports push notifications on mobile (at least on Android it asked me to permit it).

@virt I use Tusky for this instance on my Android and it's working well. I agree that I'd prefer to stick with HTML5/CSS/JS/AJAX instead of having to use a privacy violating resource consuming locally installed app.

@virt There are 3rd party Mastodon apps for iOS and Android. I'm using Amaroq for iOS.

@virt I may be missing your point, & I agree wholeheartedly that the mobile web version of mastodon does very well, but just to clarify, there *are* iOS & android apps for mastodon. amaroq on iOS & tusky on android are the most mature, I believe.

Correction to my last Toot: There are 3rd Party apps for (atleast) Android. Remind me to do my research next time.

@virt the website is a little wonky for me, but it's good enough!

@virt Tusky (Android). It's pretty great

@virt There are Apps available. I use one called Amaroq on iOS, but there's others out there.

@Lee I've been told such by others. :) Next time I'll be research next time!

@virt Blame it on Apple, but the "app on the home screen" does not have a great experience on iPad (typically scroll position is lost when you get back from a link opened in browser). But it's just an opportunity to spend some time trying to improve it 😉
